As key elements of the FAIR ecosystem, semantic artefacts should be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. In line with the aim of the FAIRsFAIR project to promote semantic interoperability in research data, the team behind the recently published report D2.2 FAIR Semantics: First recommendations, a document to support discussion with the semantic community at large, is organising a virtual workshop to define a minimum metadata schema for describing and documenting semantic artefacts both individually and as collections published in semantic repositories.
During the workshop, participants will analyse the existing metadata schemas used to describe semantic artefacts with a view to identifying common metadata fields across communities. These minimum metadata descriptors will be enriched with additional relevant fields supporting the documentation of provenance and technical information, and aligned with generic vocabularies used to describe the semantic artefacts. They will then be classified in terms of their importance as mandatory, recommended, or optional. Finally, solutions for separate publication of metadata and semantic artefacts will be investigated.
The workshop outcomes will feed into a further virtual workshop to be held on 6 May on the topic of common metadata interfaces for repositories. As such, experts on vocabulary services, semantic tools and interoperability are warmly invited to register for both events.
