The FAIR principles were created as recommendations for research data. Good quality research data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. But to be able to create data like this, researchers need supporting infrastructure and services. So what kind of services are those, and how do we create resources that support semantic interoperability?
To answer these questions, FAIRsFAIR contributed a full-day workshop at the RDA 14 Plenary in Espoo, Finland and invited experts to brainstorm together.
And this time, the topic of discussion was not data itself, but what FAIR could mean for repositories or for semantic artefacts such as terminologies, vocabularies, and ontologies. The topic: Building the data landscape of the future: FAIR Semantics and FAIR Repositories.
More than 50 experts gathered to discuss these questions. Their input was valuable and extensive and will be incorporated into the work on the FAIRification of repositories and also into developing recommendations for FAIR semantics. The first reports on these issues will be published early in 2020.
