The main principles of FAIR data (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable) have received wide acceptance in scientific data management circles. The work of further defining these principles and applying them in day-to-day knowledge sharing is ongoing.
The FAIRsFAIR working group "FAIR practices: semantics, interoperability and services" recently published the first iteration of three annual reports on the state of FAIR in European scientific data. Based on studies of public information, especially EOSC infrastructure efforts, and on limited surveying and interviews, the report reviews and documents commonalities between infrastructures and obstacles to semantic interoperability - that is the use of metadata and persistent identifiers to enhance dissemination across infrastructures.
Dr Jessica Parland-von Essen, Ph.D., is Senior Coordinator in the group for Services for Research at CSC. She has a degree in Library and information Science and is also adjunct professor of History at the University of Helsinki. She has been working with the national Finnish Open Science and Research Initiatives since 2014, and has been active in Knowledge Exchange work for Open Scholarship. Dr Parland-von Essen has produced several guides for Open Science and co-authored a national landscape report on persistent identifiers. Currently she is chairing the national work for research data citation and is responsible for the work package 'FAIR Practices: Semantics, Interoperability, and Services' in the FAIRsFAIR project.
Leah Riungu-Kalliosaari - CSC - ICT Solutions for Brilliant Minds
Dr Leah Riungu-Kalliosaari is a Project Coordinator and Cloud Specialist in the Project Acquisition and Development group at CSC. She has a degree in Software Engineering and she is currently working in the FAIRsFAIR and EOSC-Nordic projects.
The webinar presented the main findings of the report and enable attendees to offer feedback which will enrich our understanding of the landscaping, specification and “FAIRification” activities currently ongoing in the EOSC projects and elsewhere.
